Extreme Lough Neagh Freeze Videos
« on: January 10, 2010, 20:57:07 »
Took these Sun Jan 10th at Ballyronan Marina. Massive area of the Lough has froze over, people walking on it and around the boats. It was a rare experience.

Many thanks for uploading those vids Martin , and lol to those idiots on the ice , some of the smaller lakes down here are also ice'd over so it just shows the extent of the freeze .

Thanks very much guys for the feedback, glad you liked those vids. I'm really going to miss this cold spell when it goes, I just hope we can get a block again after the thaw and get more of the same!

Very good Martin. At a guess Id say from first vid that ice extended a good 100m from the edge. Would that be so? or did it vary thru inlets or depend on prevailing wind direction?

It was much further than that, although you are rite about the first vid, on the 2nd I was at a different part of the lough and the area covered by ice was huge, easily 3X times the above figure, maybe even 4 in places, it varied as you said. Here's a 200mm zoom shot looking across the Lough into the distance, all that water is ice lol..I'm still amazed.
