La Crosse Wireless Sensor trouble
« on: January 10, 2010, 22:00:24 »
I got this Weather Station http://www.ukweathershop.co.uk/acatalog/info_3_ES_WS8610.html before Xmas and since then i have been having problems getting RH and DP readings. In rain or snow like we had today i get a reading of -- this also happens when frost and fog sets in. It was frustrating today as i could'nt get DP readings. Is it a faulty sensor? Can anyone advise me how to fix this annoying problem? Tia

Sounds like it's faulty alright. That particular sensor also called a hygrometer measures moisture/water vapour content in the air. With all the conditions you have measured above are directly related to moisture.

Make sure it's housed properly and no moisture can get directly onto the sensor itself, like rain for eg :)

Averages\Extremes for Killucan February 2010

Avg Temp = 2.1°C
Avg Dir = 284° (WNW)
Rainfall = 26.1 mm
Rainfall for year = 62.3 mm
Max Temp = 9.4°C on day 05
Min Temp = -5.9°C on day 22
Max Bar = 1029.8 mb on day 12
Min Bar = 982.9 mb on day 24

Cheers Snowbie, i have it pretty much away from any water. Also as i said it happens when frost sets in so water would not be an issue there. Must be a faulty unit i guess. Guess i will have to give Weathershop.co.uk a call. Thanks again.

Yes do so.

Frost is a type of moisture btw, it freezes from moisture content in the air and ground. :)

Just a heads up to anyone who might be thinking of  buying this unit. I replaced the outside sensor with a new one and still had the same problem of not getting RH readings above 95%. I emailed La crosse and eventually got a reply. They said that some of there units don't measure RH over 95%. It really annoyed me to hear this as it never anywhere stated this in the manual or anywhere else. If i had known this i wouldn't have bought the unit. So just said i would post this info for people who might be interested.
